Meet the Parents

Happy belated Easter everyone!  We hope you didn’t miss us too much over the weekend, as we decided to take a little R&R from the blogging madness.

As it turns out, our long weekend afforded us the opportunity to have a Sisman/Brugman family get-together, which has inspired us (along with the recommendations of a few other folks) to write this post in which we introduce you to the fantastic people who made us such fantastic people :-P.

Let’s start with the Sismans (aka “The Sizemans”)…

Names: Glenn (Glenn-Baby or G.B.) and Nancy Sisman

Date of Marriage: April 10, 1976 (that’s right – their 36th wedding anniversary is tomorrow!  Be sure to wish them a happy one)

Hometowns: Glenn grew up in Aurora, ON and Nancy hails from Morris, NY

How They Met: Nancy was an academic achiever already studying at the State University of New York at Oswego by the time Glenn came to town to join the Lakers hockey team.  Jaime has it on good authority from several alumni moms that her dad was much sought-after for a date, but in the end he only had eyes for his English-major girl Nancy.  More than 35 years later G.B. still loves his hockey and Nancy still loves her books.  They call Burlington, ON home except for in the summers when they head to their Cooperstown, NY  cabin to get away from the suburban life.  Nancy is the head of guidance at a Burlington high school while Glenn retired several years ago from his long career in sales.

Names: Fred and Liseann Brugman

Date of Marriage: June 10, 1977 (their 35th wedding anniversary is coming up this summer and they’ll be celebrating with a trip to NYC!)

Hometowns: Fred was born in Amsterdam (Netherlands) while Liseann is a St. Catharines, ON local

How They Met:  Fred and Liseann met through Fred’s brother (Uncle Joepy) who was a friend of Liseann’s roommate at the time.  It wasn’t long before they knew they were meant for each other…they were married less than a year from when they met and have been living happily ever after ever since!  Nowadays Liseann works as a special education teacher in Welland while Fred owns his own successful business as an electrician.  They call Niagara Falls, ON home, but spend as much time as they can at their Port Colborne area cottage watching the birds and the boats around Lake Erie.

All four parents have been tremendously helpful and supportive through the wedding planning process so far, and we are very grateful to have them as our family.  We can’t wait to celebrate our big day with the Sismans as well as the Brugmans, and hope that we can learn from what more than 70 combined years of marriage wisdom have to teach!

  1. Although this post is very detailed, you’ve neglected to describe the essence of your parents 🙂 GB loves to share a good story, and provide all the details, even the ones you didn’t want to know, etc.

I’m hoping Chris’ family has a sprites matriarch or patriarch so that you can tell us about Nana (in the background), too!
